Blair Moore biography.

Blair Moore started his formal fight training in amateur boxing as a youth. He originally took up boxing to learn to fight as he was often picked on at school by older kids. Then in the early 70’s when the Kung Fu craze took the world by storm, he went to a Bruce Lee movie.

As every kid back then wanted to be like Bruce Lee. His first introduction to martial arts was Kyokushin Karate under Sensei Frank Everett. He trained in Kyokushin karate for a couple of years before his family moved to a new suburb, forcing Blair to change clubs. He then trained in a military form of Tae Kwon Do as well as floating between different clubs.

He started sparring with the now infamous Malcolm Hall in kickboxing and threw Hall he got the chance to spar with the likes of Bill Xanopolis, Tony Quinn and another young fighter Craig Gemeiner who introduced Blair to Savate in the mid 80’s. Over the next ten years Blair trained in New Zealand, Thailand and the US and started his own club training fighters and promoting over 20 fight nights.

Blair trained New Zealanders Scott Ray, Steve “Diamond” Dale, local fighters Jason Rice, Ronnie Todd and future superstar Wayne Parr (JWP).

Blair also promoted some of Australia biggest Kickboxing and Muay Thai events from 1988 to 1996. From the local pub scene to Conrad Jupiters Casino, he promoted over twenty events during that time period.

Some of the international stars include Thailand’s Sittisak Tor Anorsan, Wacharn, Nokveed David, Wooden Man, Sangtien Noi, Sakad Petchindee, and Frenchman Stephan Nakeima, Japan’s Kazo Kojima. Plus many more.

The fighters he promoted reads like a who’s who of the fighting world, both from Australia and overseas.

Such stars include Ian Jacobs, Steve ‘Superkick’ Vick, Dominic Deligny, Tony ‘Hollywood’ Hill, Paul ‘Hurricane’ Briggs, Ben Holly, Kerry ‘Nugget’ McNaught, Alex Tui, Hape Nagaronoa, Scott Bannan, John ‘Wayne’ Parr, Mark Pease, Darren Perris, and Mitch O’Hello.

SAVATE:

Blair was introduced to Savate by Craig Gemeiner, after Craig returned to Australia from the US where he was training with Salem Assli. Blair trained off and on with Craig until the early 90’s, but due to his heavy schedule with promoting Muay Thai and training fighters he took a hiatus from formal Savate training. He returned to Savate in the late 90’s, after recovering from a torn Achilles tendon and pursued the art with a passion. In 2004, Blair earned his Silver glove and became founder and owner of New Generation Savate French Kickboxing club.

THE FUTURE:

Blair’s aim is to promote Savate, (Sport Savate’Boxe Fransaise) and train fighter to compete in the Savate Championships in Europe. He also plans to promote the sport here in Australia, by holding events which will invite fighters from New Zealand, Japan and Australia to compete.
“It’s obviously a different scene to Muay Thai but there is definitely plenty of room for a new type of ring sport” states Blair and further makes his points by expressing that “in Europe both sports are in full flight and both are very popular”..

DOWN TIME:

On his days off Blair spends time with his wife, Jane and four children. “There is nothing more relaxing then heading down to the beach with my family and friends to have a surf to unwind”. It would be such a waste to live on the Gold Coast and not take full advantage of the sun and the surf. Surfing, swimming, jet skiing, diving and Savate.
